AUSTRALIA -SUMMER SHRED MISSION.

FROM the height of summer to Winter in 36 hours. THE SUMMER SNOWBOARDING mission begun. I have to say I haven’t been so excited for a trip in a long time! There is something about hopping on a flight to Australia. A place I never Imagined going to, and now a place I travel to annually in search of top notch park facilities, fast laps and a great crew to ride with.

Day 1. Mini shred and HOT LAPS :)

I arrived into Canberra the Capital Territory of Australia with Team GB, Two hours later saw us in the sleepy town of Berridale,  50 minutes out of the Perisher Valley, due to lack of accommodation and a mass influx of local shredders the first weekend we stayed in a motel, 7 in a bunk room, it was quite a laugh actually with the whole team in one room, including the kitchen and one toilet - it was tight! But no better way to get the Team vibes off to a good start ha. Fact for you the Snowy Mountains is home to the highest mountain range on the continent, with Thredbo having the highest lifted point in Australia at 2037 METERS!

The crew. GB Park and Pipe bunking up.

We got hit hard the first week with weather.

2 hour commute up. Snow = Chains.

Lots of snow, a contest closing the park, and high winds. In fact the weather, the majority of the trip was pretty shocking, but that didn’t stop us though. With a prime mini-park it was the perfect set up to warm up, ride a ton of laps and take a few steps back to focus on the key basics, which was actually great for me.

Shred buddy Silje Norendal.

The crew in Jindy was all time. Most days spent riding for 3-5 hours up top followed by gym/yoga and ice baths in the lake in the afternoon time. The great thing about the town of Jindabyne is it’s considerably warmer than the mountain, with a small percentage of annual snowfall it stays dry in the town which means when you get down from the mountain it’s not like being in the thick of winter. So, it’s the perfect balance for Summer riding.

7 am. Dropping in.

I spent 3 weeks up in the Snowy Mountains. The last week was a banger with 4 days in a row of sun, it was actually hot up on the mountain, which meant early morning sessions were key, as the jumps turned to mush by 10.30am!  We were really lucky to have been invited to join the Australians on one of their early morning sessions on day 2 of the heatwave, which meant that we started riding as the sun rose at 7am with the alarm set for early wake up at 5.30. The T-bar was on and we got 2 hours riding before the park officially opened. Buzzing.

Cab under Nose.

Here are a few clips I put together!

After my last day of riding I linked up with my Roxy Team mates Dara Howell and local Aussie shred Queen Miss T Bright. Torah took us down to Sydney for the weekend and gave us a real insight into local life down in the city.

Roxy road trip Crew. Torah Bright + Dara Howell.

BONDI beach - Mega, I loved it. The morning before I flew I got up at 6.30 to try and tire myself for the flight. Straight to the costal path for the Bondi - Bronte costal run, in fact it was so scenic I kept going right through to Coogee and back. The treat being a massive plate of pancakes at the end. HA I love pancakes and the Aussies definitely know how to do breakfast. I would highly recommend anyone taking a trip there to check out Bondi Wholefoods the pancakes are premium!

Bondi FLAG.

Bondi.

Torah also brought me down the coast to check out Newport and further up North along to the land of Home and Away SO CLASSIC. The Australian coast line really is something special.

The legend TB.

Thanks to everyone for making this trip such a banger, so stoked on riding right now and cannot wait until the Northern Hemi winter begins. Until then The Snow Centre it is :)

It had to be done. The final photo. The obligatory KANGAROO shot. YUS!
